WE WORK

“We do not comprehend ruins until we become ruins ourselves” Heinrich Heine

Once lost, historical buildings are never to be retrieved, thus they utterly need protection. The time of rapid change renders them particularly vulnerable, which is largely due to urban development strategies, economic pressure, the needs of state owners to reduce expenses, and the increase of harmful impact on the environment.

What does it mean to protect historical buildings? It means protecting and preserving our cultural identity. Alongside historical buildings we protect our history; we keep our stories alive and maintain the spirit of bygone times in authentic places of the past. We protect and conserve the workmanship and the creative mastery of previous generations.

In addition to the preservation of architectural legacy in Ukraine our objectives include raising awareness of the monument conservation concept. We seek to make monument conservation tangible for the young and old, because historical buildings usually play an important role (albeit on the unconscious level) in our everyday life, being places of memory, city landmarks, or distinctive symbols of our homeland.

At Architectural Heritage Foundation we also aim to make corresponding education and training available in Ukraine, in order to promote local restoration of monuments based on historical samples, as well as to enable owners of monuments to get their buildings restored by having an access to special historical renovation services.
