“Architecture is an expression of morality” Honore de Balzac
The importance of preserving cultural and historical heritage for the development of cities and the country as well is revealed by the basic principles.
First, heritage carries the cultural and civilizational codes of a nation. The loss of heritage inevitably leads to the fact that society loses its historical roots, and without it our development is impossible. The historical self-consciousness of a nation largely shapes its intellectual and creative potential.
Secondly, cultural and historical heritage sites are an important asset that can be profitable and significantly affect the economic development of cities and the country as a whole.
Third, more and more countries are realizing the importance of cultural heritage. It’s not just about the desire to redistribute tourist flows in their favor or increase the attractiveness of their real estate markets. The cultural and historical richness of the country is necessary for the promotion of national interests in the international arena.
Over the last ten years, approaches to defining the concept of cultural and historical heritage have been significantly revised, including by international organizations (primarily UNESCO).
If previously the protection of cultural and historical heritage was reduced to the protection of individual outstanding monuments, the new approaches to defining the concept of cultural and historical heritage and its protection include:
– the transition from the protection of individual objects to the protection of urban landscapes, including both out-standing cultural monuments and natural landscapes, etc.;
– integration of heritage into everyday life of the city and its transformation into an integral element.
